Featured Software  : TextPipe Web

Fix your website FAST! with TextPipe Web's advanced multi-file, multi-folder search and replace, with multi-line exact matches, sounds-like and typographical error correction, pattern matching (egrep-style, perl-style, MS Word-style and Brief-style).

You can restrict the changes to a line or column range or both. Convert files from foreign computer systems between mainframe fixed-length formats and DOS, Macintosh and Unix line-feed formats.

Filters can remove blanks from the start or end of each line, remove blank lines, remove HTML tags, add line numbers. Sub filters can identify text subsets such as a range of lines or columns to be operated on without affecting any other text.

This makes it easy to only perform a replacement in lines 1 to 10, or in columns 3 to 20. Other sub filters allow search replacements (allowing replacement text to be capitalized etc).

Full audit logs keep track of the filter lists run, files modified and changes made.

More than 100 example filter files are included along with a comprehensive user manual. TextPipe fully supports language translations.

Acronis TrueImage     Rated 5 out of 5
I have been looking for a product like this for a long time. Sure, there are other applications around that say they do what you want them to do, but when you get right down to it, they don't do the job, or they do it the hard way, or they are just too expensive. Acronis TrueImage does things easily and it does everything right. All the way down to the ability to create standalone bootable CDs which can be used to recover disk partitions.

The 'failure' of other applications comes down to two fundamental flaws - complexity, and the need to boot to a separate 'shell' to do anything. Acronis have hit on a winner with True Image. The interface is simple and attractive. The fact that no reboots (into separate operating systems or shells) are required is a major convenience.

All in all, I have to say I am incredibly impressed with Acronis True Image. A big thumbs up to the guys at Acronis - they have created a truly useful tool which does the job right every time and it does it simply and quickly. 5 out of 5 at aFreeGo.com.

Acronis Partition Expert     Rated 5 out of 5
Acronis Partition Expert is one of the best partition managers we have ever had the pleasure to rate here at aFreeGo.com. Installation was simple and quick and you can forgive the need to reboot after installation.

As with all Acronis applications, the user interface is attractive and easy to use while still allowing the user full access to all required functions. Rollup menus and context menus on just about everything really do make it an intuitive interface.

As far as we could tell, there wasn't anything missing; every task that you could possibly want with relation to disk paritioning was available and easy to use. From viewing the existing disk structure, through creating a new partition from free partition space to resising existing partitions. If you need a partition manager then we highly recommend trying Acronis Partition Expert. 5 out of 5 at aFreeGo.com.

Acronis Privacy Expert     Rated 5 out of 5
It's more than just an urban myth - we've all heard the stories and you may even know someone who has had their privacy 'compromised'. Whenever we surf the web, our browsers store information in a cache, to speed up access to sites and avoid repetitive downloading of graphics and other web page elements. While this is a good thing as far as speed goes, caching can cause some privacy problems. Personal information that you provide, such as credit card numbers and other sensitive information, may be stored in temporary files on your PC. This would not be a problem if you are always and forever the only person to use your PC, but what if you were to sell your PC, or it was to be stolen ?

If you want to be sure that information stored in temporary files is not available for someone to find on your PC then you need to take steps to remove the information. What better way than to use a user-friendly utility that not only finds and removes temporary files, but also gives you the ability to securely delete them so that they cannot be recovered in the
future. Acronis Privacy Expert 2003 is just such a utility and it is better than most.

It goes without saying that the user interface for Privacy Expert is flawless. Like all of the Acronis products, using Privacy Expert is simply a pleasure.

Program settings are both simple and comprehensive and even the novice user can get started quickly and easily with this program. If you need a utility to help keep the private things private then we highly recommend trying Acronis Privacy Expert. 5 out of 5 at aFreeGo.com.

Disk Partitioning
Partitioning The Hard Disk Increases Performance And Organization, Even For Today's Casual PC User

By Max Lyadvinsky
Director of Engineering
Acronis, Inc

Imagine a pie with each slice a different flavor and you could create a new slice or change an existing slice at will. That, essentially, is how disk partitioning works - adding, resizing and copying slices of the pie.

When disk drives were low capacity and software tended to be stable, few everyday PC users thought about disk partitions; a single disk drive served its purpose. Today, it is not uncommon to see 80GB or 120GB disk drives on retail PCs. Software tends to consume considerable disk space and daily patches and upgrades are relatively common. The rules have changed, and as a result, more users are partitioning their drives for convenience, better organization and speed.

From a performance perspective, multiple disk partitions let you manage disk operations more efficiently, resulting in faster backups of data, imaging of disk drive partitions, defragmenting drives, and quicker access to user data.

Partitioning a disk drive allows you to place program data - information that changes infrequently - on one partition and the user data - data that constantly is in flux - on a separate partition. Multiple drive partitions also are useful to those who run more than one operating systems on a single computer. Rather than buying additional disk drives and increasing hardware expenses and system overhead, separate partitions on the same drive allows the user to test a new operating system without putting their existing data at risk . . .

Data Recovery
Hard disks are treated as reliable non-volatile storage and it is quite disastrous to find out files are gone with backup copies outdated. Despite the obvious data still can be recovered, often in-house without sending the disk to the repair facility.

Two classes of widely available data recovery tools exist:
1. In-Place Repair tools attempting to correct the damage and restore the defective disk to some working condition. Most well-known examples are ScanDisk shipped with Windows and Norton Disk Doctor (part of the Norton Utilities, www.symantec.com).
2. Read-Only recovery tools which do not even attempt to modify the damaged disk but rather concentrate on getting data off it, examples being ZAR32 (www.z-a-recovery.com) and R-Studio (www.r-tt.com).
The latter approach eliminates the risk of further damaging the drive (imagine repairs done wrong rendering remaining data useless) but requires a separate well-working logical drive or better a separate hard disk. This is because you need to store recovered data somewhere but rules of the game forbid modifications to the damaged disk . . .

New Software Licensing System Embeds Sensitive Data Inside Images

Vancouver, British Columbia. - February 14, 2003 - SoftwareShield Technologies announced today the release of The SoftwareShield System, a new software licensing and copy protection system for software developers. Setting it apart from competitors, the SoftwareShield System has the ability to hide encrypted license data inside images. Traditional licensing functionality in the SoftwareShield product is standard. However, the addition of image hiding technology gives Windows software developers a new method of license enforcement and another weapon in the fight against software piracy - steganography. "Steganographic licensing technology" is SoftwareShield's licensing and copy protection solution which gives developers the unique and interesting option of using encrypted data hidden in images to license and protect their applications.

Zack Wickes, president of SoftwareShield Technologies, who has a background in Applied Artificial Intelligence, has focused his research in the past few years on computer vision, visual perception and cryptography. This research has lead to the development of the SoftwareShield steganographic engine and ultimately - the SoftwareShield Licensing System.

The SoftwareShield steganographic engine performs the task of hiding license data inside images so effectively that thousands of bytes of data can be hidden in a small image without it appearing altered to the human eye. "We
know from our artificial intelligence research in perception that the human eye is least likely to see slight differences in color variation along the edges of physical objects. We have taken advantage of this trait of human vision in the SoftwareShield System to very effectively hide license in images. The data is right under the nose of the pirates and those who might try and defeat a vendor's license. Its really quite effective when you see an embedded image and the volume of data we can hide inside it." says Wickes.

SoftwareShield primarily helps software developers who choose to deliver or license their products in electronic format by the internet - for the obvious cost benefit. "Our clients are constantly looking to find new and secure ways to demonstrate and deliver their products electronically - but without being subjected to piracy." The SoftwareShield Licensing System meets those needs by enabling developers with the power to create demo, trial, copy-protected, leased, pay-per-use and many other editions of their software with a minimum of effort and a solid level of security. This security optionally includes the new weapon in the arsenal - steganographic licensing.

The SoftwareShield Licensing and Copy Protection System ships electronically in three editions. Every edition ships with: the "License Manager" application to create and manage licenses, the "Activation Code Generator"
to unlock, activate and remote-control customers software and the "Client-Protector" component for integrating into client applications. Additionally, the Internet edition ships with the "Web Deployed Activation Code Generator" which allows vendor's to integrate the SoftwareShield system with their e-commerce solution to automatically generate Activation Codes.

You can check out the SoftwareShield System and download a free demo version at http://www.softwareshield.com or contact the company directly at info@softwareshield.com. Prices for the system range from $289 US to $679 US, depending on the edition and number of installations.
