Emery owner of Attention Shifting LLC received a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing and Advertising Management from Portland State University and a Master of Arts from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology. While studying marketing and advertising Michael''s fascination with communication grew when he saw that the stickiness of a message would determine how well an audience would remember the advertisement. He began to study communication and human behavior which eventually led him to begin researching various communication models. Michael encountered Ericksonian Hypnosis and NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) in which he found a system of empowering beliefs that explained the processes behind human behavior and created the resources necessary for personal development by design. Because of his passion for self-improvement Michael found transpersonal psychology the extension of psychological studies into consciousness studies spiritual inquiry mind-body relationships and personal transformation. Carl Jung first coined the term transpersonal (uberpersonlich) when he used the phrase transpersonal unconscious as a synonym for collective unconscious. Transpersonal psychology looks to historical and contemporary leaders saints prophets artists heroes and heroines for models of full human development and of the growth-oriented nature of the healthy human psyche. In this field Michael''s studies examined models for full personal development by identifying the strategies for motivation and inspiration used by his personal heroes to create meaning in their lives.
