The small town of Rye in East Sussex England stands at the juncture of two rivers and in Medieval times served as an important member of the Cinque Ports. In 2001 this small civil parish had a population of just over 4000. Rye has also been associated with the smuggling gangs of the 18th and 19 centuries and this makes the area rich with local stories.
